Aaron Williams: "You have to have a different body & mind"

January 31, 2018

Aaron Williams officially announced his retirement from the NFL via a Players Tribune article that was posted on Wednesday morning. Williams played 59 games for the Bills at both cornerback and safety from 2011 to 2016. After spending 2017 trying to land another job in the NFL, Williams decided to retire at the new year.

Williams will be at the WGR Celebrity Roast of Fred Jackson on Thursday February 15th at the Grapevine Banquets. Other roasters include Eric Wood, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryan Scott, and Fred's twin brother Patrick.

Aaron joined Schopp and the Bulldog on Wednesday afternoon, here's some of the best from his visit:

On how the Players Tribune letter came about:
"I was a little reluctant (to write the letter) because it's already hard to accept your flaws, but to let the whole world know?.....but I wanted to share the story"

On the game of football taking a toll:
"I understand when we lose on Sundays how mad everybody is, but at the same time you have to understand that we are working our butts during the whole week. Killing our bodies, whatever it takes to get that W. I wanted to put it in a different perspective."

On the difference mentally, being in a game:
"You have to have a different mindset, you have to be angry. You have to have a different body, a different mind, to switch to that savageness and that nastiness... Sometimes it was hard for me to turn that off."

On his future:
"There's so many adventures that I want to do. I feel like coaching right now is not one of them. It would hurt me right now to be out there on that field knowing that I could still play."

On the reaction from fans:
"I just gotta say thank you to everybody that's been there, allowed me to be me, and be there for me to support, but I feel like this is a terrible farewell. Just being sad and all that, this isn't the last time you guys are gonna see me! I'm gonna be in Buffalo still!"
