Intentional Scouting: Baker Mayfield

December 28, 2017

Some say that playing quarterback in the National Football League is one of the most difficult things in all of professional sports. Those same people will likely tell you that building an NFL roster without first securing a franchise quarterback is a lot like trying to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without any bread.

All joking aside, the Buffalo Bills are at one of the most important crossroads in franchise history. This is an organization that’s likely to miss the playoffs for an 18th consecutive season – although I’m sure the reminder wasn’t necessary.

This offseason will mark the official start of general manager Brandon Beane’s career in Buffalo. Sure, he orchestrated the trades for Sammy Watkins, Marcell Dareus, and Ronald Darby, but general managers are often judged by the caliber of player they bring in during free agency and throughout the draft process.

One of the more challenging tasks Beane and head coach Sean McDermott will face in the offseason is figuring out how to acquire a franchise quarterback to lead this organization for the next decade. So I decided to help you inform yourself on every draft-eligible quarterback in this year’s 2018 NFL Draft.

To help me do so, I’ve recruited the help of Inside the Pylon’s Mark Schofield (@MarkSchofield). If you’re unfamiliar with Mark’s work; he breaks down quarterbacks for Inside the Pylon (@ITPylon) and he also handles evaluations each week for the NFL1000 project at Bleacher Report.

Mark and I created this new podcast, Intentional Scouting, to give you enough information on each quarterback prospect to make your own informed decision on who you want this Bills to take in Aprils' draft.

In our first episode, Mark and I break down one of our favorite players in all of college football: Baker Mayfield.
