Gamenight: Sabres and Flyers scoreless after twenty minutes

December 22, 2017

The Sabres are on the ice for their last home game in 2017, and their only home game for two weeks. Buffalo and the Philadelphia Flyers are scoreless in the first period. Check back throughout the game for updates.

First Period

16:18 - Robert Haag whacked at Evander Kane as he skated in on goal all along. Kane was able to get a shot of, but the referee pointed to center ice for the penalty shot. Brian Elliott was up to the task and used his glove hand to close out the near side post and make the save on the shootout. It would have been big for Buffalo to get a goal this early tonight.

12:50 - I have liked the speed and aggressiveness that the Sabres have shown over the first seven minutes of the game. It is no surprise that Kane used his speed to to create the shootout chance and offense. Shots are 8-5 in favor of the home team so far.

8:59 - Zemgus Girgensons used his aggresiveness to create the first power play of the night. Hagg took a holding minor right in front of the net. I have liked this period very much from the team.

6:40 - Buffalo failed to score on the power play, but had several quality scoring chances, including a Jack Eichel backhand shot that just went wide of the goal post. Philadelphia had a shorthanded chance at the beginning of the kill, but after that it was all blue and gold.
