From the Locker Room: Sabres - Blackhawks

December 9, 2017

There was a lot of emotions in the locker room after the Sabres loss to the Blackhawks. The team has only won back to back games once this season, and blew an opportunity to do that Friday night. Jack Eichel was the most outspoken after the loss, looking and sounding very upset with both himself and the overall team game. Here's some of the best from the locker room and the full audio for each player, as well as head coach Phil Housley.

Jack Eichel:

On his penalty shot in overtime: "The ice isn't too good here, I wanted to shoot, I was hearing different things about the goalie in that spot, I thought I saw his legs open, it's frustrating."

On playing cautious with the lead: "We sit back when we have leads, we were happy with just getting the puck out of our zone, this was a game we needed to get two points in, this sucks."

Jason Pominville:

On giving up the lead: "It's not winning hockey, you get a PP, you want to make sure you kill the clock, even if you don't get much, at least kill the clock, we've got to make sure those things don't happen, but, it happened."

On the shorthanded goal: "You want to put the game away, but at the same time, you don't want to give up anything, it seemed like they were in our zone more than we were in ours."

Phil Housley:

On Robin Lehner's play: "He was really good tonight, made some key saves for us, it's unfortunate that second goal went in."

On being dominated on the stat sheet: "I don't think it was what they (Chicago) did, I thought our puck management and placement wasn't good, we turned it over too many times, they love to feed off transition, we didn't handle that well."

Robin Lehner:

On the team giving up so many chances: "It's tough. They had a lot of good looks. Lucky we don't lose in regulation. Two or three wacks at a puck, hit the post, had another look. It's small details. It was 2 to 1. Small details matter.

On finishing with 48 saves: "Felt good today. Been feeling good lately. Tough when we're not getting wins, but I work hard in practice to improve my game, and I think everybody is."

Next up for the Sabres, Sunday night at the St. Louis Blues. You can listen to the game following Bills-Colts coverage at 7pm on the radio home of the Buffalo Sabres WGR!
