The condition of the draft pick is based on Dareus' performance in Jacksonville this season, and can turn into a fifth round selection.

There are many ways to see the move as a surprise. From the timing, the return in the trade or that the Bills found a trade partner for Dareus' contract that pays out $5.7 million for the remainder of 2017, $10.175 million in 2018, $11.585 million in 2019 and $14 million in 2020 and 2021.

We'll have more on the story as it develops.
