DEEP PURPLE singer, IAN GILLAN, has finally brought into focus the exact reason 'Why?' there will be no 'one-off reunion' with guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE. And while Gillan states that there is "no great animosity" between the 2 men, and even current Purple guitar slinger, STEVE MORSE supports the idea of a reunion, Gillan, in an interview w/ The Vinyl Guide Podcast (link to listen is below) said, “Ritchie was a difficult character – there’s no denying that. Ritchie and the band got divorced. He walked out in the middle of a tour, and the rain stopped and the sun came out for the band. It was like that. (Drummer) Ian Paice came alive again; he was a happy guy. And (Keyboardist) Jon Lord regained his gravitas, and (Bassist/Songwriter) Roger Glover came out from under a rock. Everyone started being a normal person again.” Mr. Gillan went on to say that Blackmore's presence in the band towards the end of his tenure was “a big cloud on the social, musical and professional scene," and he (Gillan) questioned why anyone would "go back to that misery," and "it’s like somebody saying, ‘You’re happily married now, but we want you to get back together with your divorced wife, with which there’s been much bitterness over the years.’ Just for the sake of the fans. It’s not gonna happen.” So, there ya go. In the mean time, DEEP PURPLE are continuing w/ their 'Long Goodbye Tour' that's out in support of the band's newest album (released in April), "inFinite," which may very well turn out to be the final LP from the legendary, heritage hard-rockin' band. Rock On!
