Ted's Blog: Baseball Time!

April 27, 2017

I don't often blog about baseball, which is funny because growing up baseball is all I played. When I was a kid, I would play every Spring for multiple teams. I always played for CYO (the Catholic school league). I went to St. Joseph's in Beltsville, if you're wondering. We did win a championship in sixth grade, but I don't want to brag. I would also play for my city in College Park in the Spring as well and some Babe Ruth league as I got older. The point I am trying to make is that, as you can tell, I played a lot of baseball as a kid and loved it the most growing up. I still like baseball, but it is the sport I probably watch the least of these days. A big part of that was when I started watching soccer. I won't lie though, other sports are more exciting in person, but going to a baseball game is fun. And the best stadium experience, in my opinion.

I will explain my thoughts on this and why I love going to the ballpark. Now, the smell of grills and a hoodie on remind of college football tailgates, which are awesome, but to me sometimes the best part of football is the tailgate. Baseball is different in that you don't tailgate a bunch and the stadium is a huge part of the experience. There is something special about walking into a baseball game and smelling the popcorn and hot dogs. It's classic Americana and with the slower pace game, it is more fun to be in the game having a beer with a buddy than in the parking lot. I also like that you have time in between each inning to go grab food and drinks. When I was a kid, we would drive up to Baltimore and watch the Orioles games since DC did not have a team yet and I remember my brother and I getting Italian sausages. Something about that grilled sausage at a ballgame seemed so big-time back then. Hell, one of the best days of my life was going to Hooters in Baltimore inner harbor then an ALCS game between the Orioles and the New York Yankees. What a day for a young man, Hooters and playoff baseball. To this day, I still like baseball and watch it, but my favorite will always be a nice sunny afternoon at the park with a buddy or two.
