Led Zeppelin Could Settle "Stairway" Lawsuit For $1

May 3, 2016
Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Robert Plant could avoid the looming court case over the classic track "Stairway To Heaven" by paying a $1 settlement and giving a songwriting credit to late Spirit guitarist Randy California.

The representatives of California's estate say that future earnings from the songwriting credit would be used to provide musical instruments and music lessons for deprived school children.

The trial is set to begin on May 10 after California alleged that the opening section of "Stairway To Heaven" (released in 1971) was based on the instrumental Spirit track "Taurus", released four years earlier. Page described the claim as "ridiculous" and recently said he'd never heard California's composition until legal action began.
