Don't look now, but the 'Lil' Ol' Band From Texas,' ZZ TOP, will observe the 50th anniversary of their patented blues & boogie in 2019! Formed in Houston in 1969, and issuing their first album in 1971, the 3 original players-Billy F. Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard-remain, which is an accomplishment that few other heritage acts can claim after a half century. In a recent Billboard Magazine interview, Billy Gibbons remarked, “It's such a rarity to find this, the same three guys playing the same three chords and you look up and say, 'Gee, it's 50 years!' That's pretty wild."  The guitarist went on to say that, “I think it's cause for celebration. We'll certainly pull out all the stops. Furthermore, it gives us a good excuse to go back and relearn some of the stuff we're supposed to already know."  The ZZ Three had a very successful and acclaimed 5-week run in late-Spring with JOHN FOGERTY on the 'Blues and Bayou Tour', and there are dates to finish up in August with ZZ Top before Mr. Gibbons heads out on a small solo tour in support of his new (and second) solo album, 'The Big Bad Blues.' (see the complete tour itinerary below) The most recent album of new material from ZZ Top was 2012's 'La Futura,' and in the interview with Billboard, Gibbons says that his band mates Dusty and Frank have already gotten to work on some 'starter pieces' which could lead the way towards new recordings, and they remain in discussions about how to best approach their Golden Anniversary. Can't wait! Rock On, ZZ Top!
