June 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of THE BEATLES' epic, "Sgt. Pepper's...." album, and as expected, Beatles fans will be able to grab a newly remastered and "expanded" edition of the recording, as well as have a choice of a number of different configurations: Single-Disc, 2-CD's, 2 Albums, and of course, a "Super Deluxe Edition." Now, speaking for myself, I'll probably just go for the basic, remastered, 'expanded' version, which will now include the songs "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever." Those 2 songs, released in February, 1967, heralded in the "Sgt Pepper Era," in terms of the sounds The Beatles were making as well as the content (both musically and lyrically), and accompanying fashions. They were released as a "Double A-side" single, which in retrospect, Producer Sir GEORGE MARTIN considered a huge mistake. What can one expect from the the "Super Deluxe Edition?" The Press release states that "The super-deluxe edition is specifically promising “100 minutes of of outtakes, many previously unheard and unreleased,” as well as a special mono mix that features six extra tracks, including a “lost” version of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” The set is rounded out with DVD and Blu-ray versions of a documentary on the making of Sgt. Pepper plus 5.1 surround sound and hi-res stereo mixes, a 114-page booklet, two posters and a replica insert from the original album release. May 26th is the scheduled release date for the "Sgt. Pepper" recordings, with prices for the different "basic" sets ranging from $18.98-$39.98, and the "Super Deluxe Edition" available for a list price of $149.98. Rock On!
