It shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but the oft-mentioned, heavily-speculated 'reunion' of VAN HALEN with both DAVID LEE ROTH and SAMMY HAGAR will never happen. That is SAMMY HAGAR's latest 'take' on a topic of conversation that he's had in recent years concerning a possible 'Sam & Dave' Tour with Van Halen that would have had both of the iconic band's singers sharing the stage. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Mr. Hagar bemoaned the fact that there has been no communication between him and brothers Alex & Eddie Van Halen, and that he is now 'over' the idea of such an undertaking. Sammy pointed out 2 particular instances recently that led him to this point--the tragic death earlier this year of (former VH and current Sammy band mate) MICHAEL ANTHONY's grandson, and the Red Rocker's milestone 70th birthday, for which both Eddie and Alex remained silent. Speaking on the Eddie Trunk Show on Satellite Radio, Sammy said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with those two brothers, man.” “For them not to do anything for Michael’s grandson, and then again on my birthday … I didn’t expect it, I really didn’t think about it. But people keep bringing it up: ‘Oh, you must have heard from the brothers. Did Eddie …?’ No.All that says to me is that it’s over," Hagar continued. "Those guys do not want to be friends. And if they don’t want to be friends, then we certainly ain’t gonna do a reunion, ‘cause that would mean I would just do a reunion for some money or something. I would love to do it for the fans, I really would – but other than that, nah, I’m over it.” Listen to the entire interview w/ SAMMY HAGAR HERE.
