While it’s definitely NOT their finest work, The ROLLING STONES are nonetheless preparing a 50th Anniversary Edition of their 1967 ‘psychedelic  experiment’ album, “Their Satanic Majesties Request” for release in September…Long considered The Stones’ ‘answer’ to The BEATLES’ “Sergeant Pepper’s…” album, the 1967 album (their 6th LP in the UK/8th LP in the U.S.) was not a favorite of critics, but did include 2 great songs: ‘She’s A Rainbow,’ and ‘2000 Light Years From Home.’ While it could be considered a self-indulgent exercise by a rock band, ROB BOWMAN, the author of the 20-page booklet included in the box set claims, “Their Satanic Majesties Request should be recognized as an important stepping stone in the Rolling Stones’ development from an R&B-inspired band to the inventors of modern rock for the 1970s.”  Stones’ drummer, CHARLIE WATTS also fondly recalls that “The sessions were a lot of fun because you could do anything. It was so druggy — acid and all that.” Incidentally, session musician/arranger JOHN PAUL JONES, who would eventually join up w/ LED ZEPPELIN, arranged the strings on the album… There will NOT be any ‘extra’ songs or outtakes or alternate versions on the re-release, but there will be a bunch of previously-unseen photos from the sessions for the album. Additionally, the new set, which will be released September 22nd, will include both the stereo and mono mixes of the album, and it will be available on 180-gram vinyl and SACD. Rock On!
