ROBERT PLANT and The Sensational Shape Shifters started their brief (11 dates) North American tour in Raleigh, NC the other night with a stunning 15-song set. A full third of the songs performed were Zeppelin classics, now bearing Robert's regular creative and imaginative 're-interpretations.' Exclaiming that it was a "Blast" to be back in the U.S., Robert and his band, with whom he has now been playing with for a dozen years, treated their audience to a pair of songs each from their previous 2 albums before offering up "That's The Way," the first of 5 Zep selections to be performed. (see set list & video below) Robert Plant's constant re-working of those Zeppelin songs is usually quite a noticeable departure from their familiar, original versions, and with these performances, there is minimal (if any) reliance on any dominant guitar riffs. The North American leg of the tour ends up March 2nd in Los Angeles before Robert and the band head to Australia and Europe. Rock On, Robert!
