In celebration of the 45th Anniversary of PINK FLOYD's epic 'Dark Side of the Moon' album, a new book about how PINK FLOYD "re-invented' themselves after the departure of founding member, SYD BARRETT, is set for February. The book, 'Reinventing Pink Floyd: From Syd Barrett To The Dark Side Of The Moon,' was written by Bill Kopp, and lays out exactly what The Floyd did moving forward after Barrett left the group in 1968. History has shown that the groundbreaking group fared remarkably well post-Syd, recording and releasing some incredible, imaginative, and stirring albums that continue to inspire and influence scores of musicians and music fans! Mr. Kopp details how the band members 're-branded' themselves, creating a new musical 'identity,' a new songwriting style, and overall, changed the way albums were recorded, produced, and enjoyed by listeners. The author goes into great detail about how this was no easy task, what with "failed experiments, creative blind alleys, one-off musical excursions, abortive collaborations, a general restlessness and - most importantly - a dedicated search for a distinctive musical personality." Focusing on the years 1968-1973, Mr. Kopp chronicles the various innovations and musical breakthroughs made by Messrs. Waters, Gilmour, Wright, & Mason that over time, have remained influential right up until the present day. The book also presents a context of the band's history, culture, and music, and how the group's 'trial by fire' experimentation all coalesced into the enduring superstardom that helps sustain the legacy of Pink Floyd. The book (from Rowman & Littlefield Publishing) will be available starting February 15th. Rock On, Pink Floyd!
