JOE COCKER, who died in 2014, was undeniably one of the greatest "song stylists" in Rock & Roll. It wasn't so much his songs/music that led to his fame, but rather his unique, passionate 'interpretations' of other's songs...Think "With A Lil' Help From My Friends," "The Letter," or Leon Russell's "Delta Lady," and so many more. Upon hearing of Cocker's death, PAUL McCARTNEY was quoted as saying of him, "He [Cocker] was a lovely northern lad who I loved a lot and, like many people, I loved his singing. I was especially pleased when he decided to cover "With a Little Help from My Friends" and I remember him and (producer) Denny Cordell coming round to the studio in Savile Row (central London) and playing me what they'd recorded and it was just mind-blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful to him for doing that." JOE COCKER's legendary "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" Tour and the subsequent documentary film and accompanying soundtrack ranks as one of the greatest Rock & Roll 'Live' chronicles ever recorded. And now, there is a documentary that celebrates the British singer's career, from his childhood in Sheffield, his meteoric rise to stardom following his Woodstock appearance in 1969, and thru the rest of the Rock/Soul singer's 'up and down' career, complete with all the highs and the lows as well. The 90-minute documentary film, titled "Joe Cocker: Mad Dog With Soul," had it's streaming premiere on April 1st (Netflix), and contains many interview clips with Cocker, as well as interviews with friends, family, fans, promoters, etc., and also has many performance clips, the majority of which are culled from his work in the 1970's. Also represented are the songs that helped Joe Cocker's 'comeback' in the early 1980's, specifically "You Are So Beautiful," & "Up Where We Belong," the latter of which (sung with JENNIFER WARNES) became the singer's only #1 song!  While there's no 'official' word yet on a wider distribution of the film, it's hoped that there will be after the 'exclusive' airing on Netflix is complete. Rock On!
