"Hey hey, we're The Monkees, people say we monkey around. But we're too busy singin', to put anybody down!" For music fans of a particular age, you'd recognize the lyrics (and be able to sing along) to the theme song for The Monkees TV show from the 1960's. The formation of the band was not what you'd call 'organic,' meaning the 4 band members-Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, and Davy Jones-did not come together on their own... All four men were more or less  'recruited' for the needed parts for the 'concept' of The Monkees as a band and a TV show.  The idea for the band and the show was born of the desire of the American TV & Music industry to have an American music group fashioned after The Beatles, and produce a light-hearted, comedic half-hour of misadventures and general fooling around by the band. The content of the individual show was interspersed with at least one, and usually 2 of their catchy, poppy, (usually) professionally written songs. Only 2 of the Monkees' members-Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith-were accomplished musicians, but that wasn't much of a concern as there were session musicians available to play on (some) of the songs. It all worked and worked well...VERY well, and The Monkees went on to become an iconic part of both American television and music. In the following decades, there were a couple of reunions (with & without Mike Nesmith), new songs, and concert tours. Original singer Davy Jones died in 2012, and Peter Tork is busy with other projects, and that is why Mr. Nesmith and drummer/singer Mickey Dolenz will be the sole original members to take part in the just announced "The Monkees Present: The Mike and Micky Show," hitting the concert trail for a month of shows beginning June 1st. (see itinerary below) Fans can expect plenty of Monkees hits as well as some deeper, more obscure songs, but Mike Nesmith points out that it will be "different" than a Monkees show, adding  "I mean, it'll be Monkees music, but there's no pretense there about Micky and I being the Monkees. We're not. We're the remnants." The Monkees most recent album was 2016's 'Good Times.'
