If you’re gonna be traveling to Seattle Washington anytime soon, maybe you’ll want to stop by the newest park in Jet City…The JIMI HENDRIX PARK!  Although the park has been open since last October, the “Official” debut is set for June 17th, now that the 2nd phase of its development has been completed.  The park has been “in the works” for the past few years, with funding for the project coming from the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation.  Some of the features of Jimi Hendrix Park include sculptures, walkways that feature song lyrics etched into a purple ribbon alongside, rain and butterfly gardens, and a “petting zoo” of musical instruments. The opening will take place from Noon to 5pm on June 17th, with musical performances, speeches from public officials, and an appearance by Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s (half) sister, who currently oversees the estate of her guitarist brother. (Experience Hendrix) According to the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation website, the construction of the park was undertaken to create “a welcoming and inspiring community gathering space, as well as a place for fans of Jimi’s music to celebrate his indelible contributions to the music world.”  (If you go, The Jimi Hendrix Park is located adjacent to the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle’s Central District at 2400 S. Massachusetts St.) Rock On!
