Following a devastating earthquake in Armenia in 1989, members of QUEEN, BLACK SABBATH, PINK FLOYD, IRON MAIDEN, & other Rockers got together for what were billed as 'The Rock Aid Armenia Sessions.' Rock & Roll has frequently been there when it comes to lending humanitarian aid in the form of Rock & Roll Benefit shows and fund raising, and guitarists BRIAN MAY, TONY IOMMI, AND DAVID GILMOUR all lent their considerable guitar talents to the re-recording of the Deep Purple classic, 'Smoke on the Water.' Other musicians involved in the 'Aid Armenia' Project included: Bryan Adams, Ritchie Blackmore, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Downes, Keith Emerson, Ian Gillan, Alex Lifeson,  Paul Rodgers, Chris Squire and Roger Taylor. (Led Zeppelin's) John Paul Jones and (Deep Purple's) Jon Lord were credited as "helping" behind the scenes with the track.
