Scandella fined $5,000 for slashing

November 15, 2017

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Marco Scandella has been fined for slashing Pittsburgh Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist on Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Scandella has been fined $5,000, the maximum amount allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Hornqvist during the second period of Tuesday's matchup. Scandella was assessed a two-minute minor penalty on the play, while Hornqvist was also assessed a penalty for cross checking. The Sabres, at the time, were on a penalty kill when the infraction occurred in front of the net.

The fine money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Sabres are off from practice on Wednesday, but will return to the ice on Thursday to prepare for the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.
