The Sabres will have four alternate captains

Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - As Jason Botterill said on Wednesday, the Sabres are not going to start the season with a captain. Botterill and the coaches have decided on four alternate captains in Jack Eichel, Ryan O’Reilly, Kyle Okposo and Zach Bogosian. Head coach Phil Housley said, “Our coaches sat down and evaluated the situation and we felt that the guys that we named, we have total confidence and just talking with Jason, he was very comfortable with the decision, so we named four alternate captains at this point.”

“There’s a lot of good leaders in that team and we’re going to rely on all of them to be a part of it.”

Eichel said on Wednesday that he didn’t need a letter on his sweater to lead, but he’s honored to be wearing an A, “It’s a huge honor to be a leader of this team and this organization, but I really don’t want to change too much, I want to be myself around the rink, bring the same attitude, work ethic and personality and just be a good teammate.”
