Sabres' Skinner said many factors went into his decision to come to Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Jeff Skinner had to waive his no trade clause for the Hurricanes to trade him to the Sabres. The speedy winger is from Toronto and he said there were many factors that went into his decision, “The young group of players they have, the young core is exciting. I'm excited to join those guys and be a piece of the puzzle."

Skinner, of course, was talking about Jack Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt, Sam Reinhart, Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson and Linus Ullmark. Skinner also said he did some investigating before he agreed to the move by talking to players that used to play here.

The winger said he heard good things about the ownership, as well as the fans and the city. Being from Toronto, Skinner knows all about Buffalo.

Skinner is in the final year of a six-year contract. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but after being traded, an extension is the last thing on his mind, “I haven’t really thought about it. Obviously the last 24-to-48 hours have been pretty busy.

“I’m just excited to start the season, and that’s what my focus is and that’s what my focus is going to be for the next little while.”

Skinner has never met Jack Eichel, but is looking forward to it, saying he’d rather play with him rather than against him.

Many felt being from Toronto played into his decision, but he said in reality, it didn’t, “It’s a positive all things considered because my family is excited, but for me when you rank the priorities and weigh everything that goes into it, it’s nice to be close to family and friends, but for me, my focus is winning and having a good season.

“I want to come into camp and be as prepared as possible to start on the right foot. The core, the ownership and the management, those things are on the top of your list and the other things are just bonuses.”
