Sabres' Ristolainen won't play in Dallas

November 4, 2017

Dallas, TX (WGR 550) - The Sabres have another injury on defense. Rasmus Ristolainen joins Zach Bogosian, Josh Gorges and Nate Beaulieu on the sideline. Justin Falk has only played one game.

Phil Housley said Ristolainen has an upper body injury and is day-to-day.

Justin Bailey skated with Nick Baptiste and Chad Johnson after the morning skate was over.

With number 55 out, tonight’s pairs are:

Scandella  Falk

McCabe  Tennyson

Antipin  Fedun

The Sabres come into Dallas after winning in Arizona on Thursday, 5-4. Buffalo had a 5-1 lead 12 minutes into the third period, but gave up three goals in 6:57 and just held on to win.

The nice thing about the win over the Coyotes was the Sabres finally got secondary scoring. Benoit Pouliot had two goals while Seth Griffith and Kyle Okposo each had one. That was Okposo’s first goal and Griffith’s second.

Pouliot has four goals in five games.

Phil Housley has asked his team for more shots and lately he’s gotten it. In seven of the last eight games, they’ve had 31 shots or more. In those seven games, they’ve averaged 34 shots.

Evander Kane scored his 3rd shorthanded goal of the season on Thursday which leads the NHL.

Ryan O’Reilly had three assists against the Coyotes and has four goals and five assists for nine points in his last eight games.

Robin Lehner will be back in goal.

Dallas is 7-2-1 against the Sabres since 2010. They’ve also won five straight against Buffalo here in Texas.

After winning four in a row, Dallas has lost three of five. In all three losses they gave up five goals and in the two wins, they got scored on once.

Ken Hitchcock is concerned that his team will be low in energy since they are coming off a five game road trip that ended in Winnipeg on Thursday.

It will probably be a boring game because Hitchcock said they will play it really tight for two periods and the try to win it in the third.

Ben Bishop has played in all but two games and is 6-3-0 with a 2.66 goals against and .913 save percentage. The Stars have had goaltending problems for years and it cost Lindy Ruff is job. Bishop came in after stops in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Ottawa and Tampa Bay.

Bishop gets a rest tonight as Kari Lehtonen is between the pipes. Lehtonen is 1-3-0 with a 2.91 goals against and .896 save percentage.

Captain Jamie Benn is leading the way for Dallas with seven goals and seven assist for 14 points in 13 games.

Alexander Radulov has goals and points in four straight games. He has seven points in that span.

The Stars have the number one power play in the NHL going at a 30.8 percent clip. Buffalo has had five more chances and scored six less goals.

Victor Antipin will takes Ristolainen’s spot on the number one power play.

Join Brian Koziol at 7:00 for the pregame when he’ll be joined by Phil Housley, Ryan O’Reilly and Johan Larsson.
