Sabres' Reinhart said any talks on his contract will remain private

Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - The Sabres had more players join their skate at HarborCenter on Tuesday including Sam Reinhart, Patrik Berglund, Nate Beaulieu, Carter Hutton, Jake McCabe, Nick Baptiste and Alex Nylander.

Reinhart is a restricted free agent still looking for a new contract. He said, “That stuff is all between us and that’s the way we want to keep it, so right now my focus is being around the rink, being with the guys practicing like I would for a normal season, so I’m just treating it like that.”

Reinhart did say he has been paying attention to other guys contracts around the NHL that have been signed, but he added that his preparation doesn’t change. He did say that Buffalo is the place he wants to be long-term.

Reinhart was on a 73-point pace in his last 44 games last season and that has helped fuel him during his summer workouts. He said, “Yes, a lot, I was happy with the way I was able to battle through that adversity and get back to the player that I know I can be and know I am, so a lot of that confidence was translated into the off-ice this summer and looking forward to starting fresh.”

I don’t know if Reinhart can produce 73-points per season, but he knows he has to be better than what he had been doing, “My focus is to help the team every night and I have to contribute, I have to put up numbers and I think a lot of the chances I was creating late with my line mates, we were capitalizing on them and that’s a big part of the focus.”

Even though Reinhart doesn’t have a contract, he feels it’s important to be here now. A lot of it is to meet new teammates, “It’s nothing new to us, but it’s another reason why I wanted to get back and get with the group because the week or two before camp, you can’t just pick that up, you really have to value that time together and get a feel with the guys and that’s why I am here.

“I think it’s a fresh mentality and a lot of excitement around the guys are we’re moving forward and that’s the way it’s got to be.”

The Sabres prospects who are playing this weekend skated extra with Matt Ellis to try to get ready. They included Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson, Lawrence Pilut, Brendan Guhle and Nylander.
