Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - The Sabres got a winger that is quite capable of playing with Jack Eichel when they acquired Conor Sheary from Pittsburgh. Sheary adds speed and is a player that knows what it like playing with a superstar player like he did in Pittsburgh with Sidney Crosby. Botterill said, “We were looking to improve our even strength scoring, we knew we had to try to get more scoring from our wingers and what I’ve always liked about Conor’s game is he’s had success winning two Stanley Cups and especially at even-strength, he creates a lot of chances out there.”

The Sabres have had players that crack under pressure which is why they haven’t made the playoffs in seven years. Botterill said in acquiring Sheary, he got a player that is the opposite, “He knows how to play in pressure situations against top players and we’ve talked about bringing in players that have playoff experience.”

I had wondered if Hunwick would be a buyout candidate, but it doesn’t sound like it, “I like how Matt Hunwick handles himself as a pro and his mobility on the backend will help out our group.”

It seems like there’s a different Ryan O’Reilly rumor out there every day and Botterill said most of it is false, “You have a ton of rumors out there right now and I think a lot of them are very creative and I would just say from Day 1, we’ve been very happy with Ryan being a part of our group and we’ve said before that it’s no surprise that teams are calling, he has a great reputation around the National Hockey League, but the validity of a lot of the rumors are simply untrue.”
