The Sabres are not sitting players to keep them from getting hurt

February 22, 2018

Detroit, MI (WGR 550) - The Sabres are in Detroit and there won’t be any surprises in the lineup. Phil Housley will start Robin Lehner in goal and will sit Jordan Nolan and Justin Falk.

Many are wondering why Evander Kane isn’t sitting so he won’t get hurt before Monday’s trade deadline. Housley said it hasn’t been brought up with general manger Jason Botterill, “Jason is going to do what's best for this organization and if we get to that point, he'll let me know."

Many thought Mike Green might get traded by the Red Wings, but he’s been out injured for the last three games.

Kane has just four goals in 25 games, but he has scored three in his last six.

Buffalo has lost three straight games and have a .375 points percentage. The Sabres are almost in last place in the NHL as Arizona’s points percentage is .373.

Buffalo had gone four straight games where they scored four or more goals, but they only have netted two in each of the last three games.

The power play has also cooled off with no goals in three games.

Kyle Okposo has points in seven out of 10 games.

Detroit is in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points. That’s 12 more than Buffalo. The Red Wings have lost three of four games.

Jimmy Howard has played 43 games in goal and is 16-19-6 with a 2.84 goals against and .910 save percentage.

Dylan Larkin leads Detroit in scoring with nine goals and 35 assists for 44 points in 59 games. Larkin has just one goal in his last 13 games.

The Sabres have beaten the Wings 1-0 in Buffalo and lost 3-1 in Detroit.
