Report: Sabres and Eichel discussing eight-year deal

August 2, 2017

According to a report from the Associated Press, Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres are negotiating an extension that could be for eight years, the NHL max-term.

Eichel's agent Peter Fish has told the AP, "We are talking and I would say that we will be continuing to talk."

Terry Pegula spoke today at Buffalo Bills training camp and said, "I can tell you this, we want Jack and Jack wants to be in Buffalo".

Eichel has one year left on his entry-level deal, where he would become a restricted free agent without an extension. Connor McDavid recently signed an extension worth $100 million over eight years. The next highest paid players are Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Carey Price who carry a $10.5 million cap hit.

In two seasons, Eichel has 113 points in 142 games. Last year he saw improvement with 57 points in 61 games.

Eichel's other agent Peter Donatelli tells WKBW, "We're having intense, in-depth discussions, we're working through issues, trying to close in on an agreement."
