Report: Bills to sign free agent quarterback Anderson

October 7, 2018

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Sunday morning that the Buffalo Bills may be adding a veteran presence to their quarterback room in Derek Anderson.

Derek Anderson was sitting out but the Bills have been among a handful of teams kicking tires on quarterbacks , including Landry Jones and Paxton Lynch. The experience and familiarity with coach and GM has tilted in favor of Anderson.

The Bills have had workouts with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones and Denver Broncos first round bust Paxton Lynch, but Mortensen reports that the veteran Anderson will be signed by the Bills in the next 24 hours.

Anderson was last with the Carolina Panthers, backing up Cam Newton last season. Anderson, 35, has been with the Panthers, Cardinals and Browns in his 12-year NFL career, making 47 starts. Anderson also worked with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll during their time with the Browns.

The Bills don't have much in experience in their quarterback room, as rookie Josh Allen and second-year backup Nathan Peterman are the only passers on the roster.
