Report: Bills grant Texans permission to interview VP of Personnel Brian Gaine

January 2, 2018

The Bills have granted the Houston Texans permission to interview Vice President of Player Personnel Brian Gaine for their vacant general manager position, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Gaine had been with the Texans since 2014 before joining the Bills.  He worked closely with their general manager, Rick Smith, and was the team’s Director of Player Personnel his last two seasons there.

Smith, who had been the Texans’ GM since 2006, announced that he was taking a leave of absence to be with his wife, Tiffany, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.  He will reportedly retain his position as the team's Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

Gaine had interviewed with the Bills for their GM job last offseason, which eventually went to Brandon Beane.  He had also interviewed with the Eagles, Bears, Jets, and 49ers for GM openings in the past. Gaine has nineteen years of personnel experience in the NFL.
