Eva Mendes Wants to Make 'Hitch' Sequel With Will Smith

February 27, 2020

Eva Mendes is swiping right on making a follow-up to her 2005 romcom “Hitch.”

Since the film recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of its release, Mendes believes it's time to rejoin Will Smith for a sequel.

“You know what? It’s time for a 'Hitch 2,'" the 45-year-old told “Entertainment Tonight.” “Will, let’s do this. 'Hitch 2.'”

While the original saw Smith’s character Alex "Hitch" Hitchens portray a “date doctor” who teaches men how to romance women, Mendes said an update would find him struggling in the current climate of online dating.

"It'd be in the world of all these dating apps,” she added. “What would Hitch do? He'd be out of a job."

“Hitch” was a box office hit and wound up earning over $368 million at the worldwide box office. While there are no plans as of yet for a big screen sequel, there have been several attempts to adapt it for television, but none have made it to air.

Meanwhile, a “Hitch” sequel could be just the vehicle that gets Mendes back on the big screen as she’s taken a break from her acting career since having her two daughters with partner Ryan Gosling.

While she says acting is something she “will always love,” she hasn’t found the right project as her priorities have changed.

“There’s just so many things I won’t do. Like I won’t do most of the movies I’ve done in the past. A lot of things are off that list. I don’t want to do anything too violent. Of course, I don’t want to do anything too sexual or sexual at all,” she confessed.

“So I’m basically like, ‘Disney, I’m all yours, Disney,’” she joked. “That’s all that’s left.”

But even if she’s only open to star in kids' movies, Mendes is most interested in being a villain.

“I’m more of the Ursula type. I like the villains of the Disney movies,” she said. “They’re fun.”

Your move, “Little Mermaid!
