Poyer, Gaines remain day-to-day as Bills prep for Raiders

October 25, 2017

Wednesday always brings a little caution when it comes to Bills players and practice.  Any player who is more than a little bit banged up often sits out of the first real practice of the week following a game.  It’s also a day certain veterans get a rest before heading back onto the field for the rest of the week’s game preparation.

Today, those numbers were even a little higher than usual with several players nursing injuries suffered in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and three more getting a rest day.

LB Ramon Humber (hand) and TE Charles Clay (knee) both remain out after being injured in the team’s week five game at Cincinnati.

CB E.J. Gaines, G Richie Incognito, and S Jordan Poyer all sat out of practice with various ailments.  Gaines injured his hamstring Sunday and could not finish the game.  Incognito got his ankle rolled up on and had to miss several plays before returning to the field.  Poyer was hit in the knee on the very last play as the Buccaneers continued to lateral the ball.  He was tended to on the field after time expired.

Head coach Sean McDermott said Gaines and Poyer are day-to-day and that the team was simply being cautious with Incognito, indicating he should be available to play this Sunday when the 3-4 Oakland Raiders visit Orchard Park.

LB Lorenzo Alexander, RB LeSean McCoy, and DT Kyle Williams all got rest days Wednesday as the team practiced in the chilly air outside the ADPRO Sports Training Center.

Poyer, Humber, Alexander, and McCoy were all on the stationary bike during the portion of practice the media was allowed to watch.

Shareece Wright relieved Gaines Sunday and would most likely start in his place if he cannot play.  If Poyer is unable to go, Trae Elston is the most likely candidate to replace him.
