From the Locker Room: Sabres-Rangers, Indoor Edition

January 18, 2018

With the bye week behind them, the Buffalo Sabres were back in game-action on Thursday night in Madison Square Garden as the Sabres did battle with the New York Rangers.

The Sabres played well after the lengthy break, but fell to the Rangers in a back-and-forth affair by a final score of 4-3. Buffalo's powerplay continued its improvement in the loss as the team tallied two man-advantage scores out of four attempts.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Sam Reinhart, Justin Falk, Rasmus Ristolainen and Phil Housley following the loss.

Sam Reinhart:

On the questionable embellishment against him: "I've never really dove in my life. Certainly didn't there. Had a good talk with [the referee] after. I respect him as a ref; we've seen a lot of each other even growing up. That's his call to make and I have to respect that."

On the team getting rolling after another slow game-start: "More times than not, if you have a break like that it's going to be tough to start. They were all over us. We easy could have waited til the second period to settle it down but we managed to settle it down later in the first and were able to go from there."

Justin Falk:

On the team getting their legs under them as the game progressed: "All things considered, coming off a break like that I thought we played fairly well. We skated fairly well once we got our legs going. Just a couple tough circumstances where we were a couple of feet away."

On the net-front presence: "It was very good tonight. [Gorges] had a couple of shots there, too. We've been preaching that a lot. Getting underneath and getting on top of the goalie in the blue paint there. Once we get that, it doesn't even have to be the best shot. We just have to find a way to get it down there with the net-front presence and it can cause havoc."

Rasmus Ristolainen:

On what is to blame in the loss: "I think we made a couple too many turnovers and mistakes. The shift right after a goal is huge, and we were sloppy [in that regard]. That cost us the game."

On the Rangers' last goal: "I had [to defend] a 2-on-1 there, so I tried to take the pass away and take a shot."

Phil Housley:

On the effort: "Couple of those goals, we're in our zone and we're just getting too anxious and too eager to do something big instead of taking care of our own end, like staying on the puck and playing on the right side. Two goals were the result of that."

On the improved powerplay: "I thought it looked really good. Not because it scored the two goals; it's always good to contribute. But the movement and the shots we were getting, and the net-front presence was a huge factor in its success."
