From the Locker Room: Sabres-Oilers

November 24, 2017

The Buffalo Sabres hosted Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night in the final installment of Buffalo's four-game homestand. The Sabres brought with them a seven-game losing streak, and were looking to salvage one victory on home ice. Stingy goaltending and timely offense was the winning formula that Buffalo had been yearning for as they emerged victorious over Edmonton by a final score of 3-1, snapping their lengthy losing streak in the process.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Jacob Josefson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Jack Eichel and Phil Housley following the win.

Jacob Josefson

On the game: "We had a really great team effort. We played a solid game. It felt good to get two points."

On sticking to the gameplan: "I thought we had a solid effort for 60 minutes today. We stuck to what we talked about, and it gave us the result we wanted."

On secondary players showing up on the scoresheet: "It's good when everybody can contribute a little bit. I know we have some great, top players here, but it's good for us other guys to chip in sometimes, too."

On the game, and the end result: "That's what happens when we stay together, we stick to the gameplan, and we play a pretty solid 60 minutes."

On how he feels after his first game back after a lengthy absence: "I could go another another [game] right away. I feel great. I've never, during the year, been able to rest that much and I've kept my legs in good shape. I feel really good."

On how he and Marco Scandella were able to neutralize McDavid: "You have to play him physical, move out there, and try to take the space away. Today was a pretty solid effort."

On the great team effort, plus getting two points at home: "We get two points here at home, it's a desperation game for us. We needed to make a statement to ourselves. It's good to win at home."

On Buffalo's line domination leading up to Josefson's goal: "It's a great job of cycling, few lines get out there, our defense did a good job of getting involved in the play. Second period we were able to take advantage of the closer change, there was a great play by [Kyle Okposo] off the wall, and a nice shot by [Josefson]."

On guys playing with desperation tonight: "I thought a lot of guys showed desperation tonight. You know, a guy like Okposo, he's been working really hard as of late. It's nice to see him get rewarded with an empty-netter. I thought he played a great game. Those were some key plays he made for us. It's nice to have Ristolainen back, too. I thought he was great the whole game. Our defense did a good job closing."

On lines aiding each other, wearing Edmonton down for the next men up which led to a goal: "We had some really good zone time in the first period, and that led into the second period where guys were protecting the puck, doing some cutbacks and supporting each other really well. One shift led to another, and [the goal] was a result of some hard work down in the offensive zone."

On using this game as a cookie cutter for how they should play moving forward: "I just think [tonight] was a great response. This team's been through a lot in the short past here. There's been a lot of challenges and a lot of conversation, as it was time to put things into action. I thought the guys responded well. Came out with a really good start to the first period. I thought everybody played really well tonight."
