From the locker room: Sabres-Islanders

December 27, 2017

The Sabres thought they were on their way to a 2-1 win at Barclays Center on Wednesday, but a replay review helped determine the New York Islanders tied the game 2-2 in regulation. Then, Mathew Barzal scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 win over Buffalo.

Go inside the locker room to hear from Robin Lehner, Zemgus Girgensons, Kyle Okposo, and Phile Housley below:

Robin Lehner

On the goal being counted for the Islanders: "I know Toronto already made up their mind it was a goal before they shot the puck. It's just how it works in this league, I've seen a lot of saves like that that's just on the edge, that's  kind of to determine and they're so in a hurry to...blow it [dead] in the middle of the play, you know, it's just kind of unheard of. I guess it's something in Buffalo, Buffalo waters, you know, the Bills have that play last game, it's just...what it is."

On similar situations this season: "We played in Montreal, what is it, ten, fifteen games ago, [Carey] Price is having a shutout, we score a good goal and the league kind of take it away, they take it away it's a good goal, they take it away, he gets a shutout. It's just how the league works, unfortunate."

Zemgus Girgensons

On the team's overall effort in the loss: "We got the legs going after the first couple minutes there, I thought we did a pretty good job, played pretty simple, did the right things and I thought we outplayed them for the most part but [we were] unlucky there in the end."

Kyle Okposo

On the team's play in the loss: "We played a pretty good hockey game. With the exception of the first, you know, six, seven minutes of the game I thought we outplayed them. You know, we had our chances, we played a pretty simple game and moved our feet and, you know, it's a tough otucome for us."

Phil Housley

On the team's play in the game: "I thought we really played a strong third period, you could see it in the shots, it was thirteen to eight in shots and really good opportunites for us. It's unfortuntate that they get that guy on the back side and Robin tries to make a save and after we looked at it a couple times, from the overhead cam I didn't believe it was in, but seeing it from a different angle it was definitely in."
