From the locker room: Sabres-Coyotes

November 3, 2017

Hear from the locker room following the Sabres 5-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.

Kyle Okposo

On his goal late in the first period: "Big one to get anytime you can get one in the last minute to change the momentum there, I thoguht that they kind of, they steamrolled us a bit in the first and that goal gave us some momentum, we had a really good second period."

On Arizona's third period push: "We just gotta keep have a 5-1 lead, like, you just have to play smart, and you know, keep mojng your feet, keep making plays, and we just got on our heels, and you know a team's gonna come make a push, and if they score a goal you have to still get on your toes and just keep playing the right way, and you know we'll learn that as we go."

On the game overall: "Was a weird game, I felt like it was a little bit like pond hockey out there for both sides, I think it was a lot of high end chances for both ways, first couple periods it felt like every shot was a 'Grade A' and they kept coming, and you know they get a lucky one off the skate, I let in a bad rebound on the third one and they got some momentum, and I think we didn't panic, I didn't panic, and you know, big win."

On his goal: "I think we just did a good job of getting back into our zone, forced the tunover, and I think they got a little mixed up on the change there. I think we were initially anticipating a 3-on-2 rush but ended up getting a breakway out of it, so it worked out good."

On letting Arizona back into the game: "In the third we could have done a better job of shutting them down. Obviously, we knew they were gonna have a push in the third, playing down a couple goals. I think it's easy to you know cheat a little offensively, so I think we just have to do a better job of staying above the rush and shutting them down, but obviously feels good to get the win today."

On the team holding on for the win: "We started like we had been off for five days, until we got our feet underneath us in the first period and Okie [Kyle Okposo] scores a huge goal for us. Second [period] I thought we did a terrific job of doing what we talked about, playing without the puck, doing everything right, creating a three-quarter ice game, and we scored two goals because of it, and then we get the 5-1 lead. I just thought that we just need to bear down, make the right decisions, we got away from what made us successful, and we almost shot ourselves in the foot, but you knwo obviously we'll take the win."

On key face-offs late to preserve the win: "I thought Ryan [O'Reilly] and Jack [Eichel] were really good in the circle tonight. I think [for] Jack [it] was his best game for face-off percentage, so you know, we need that from him, it's a big detail from our game."
