Jack Eichel, Linus Ullmark and others comment on the Sabres 4-3 OT loss to Toronto

December 4, 2018

A difficult overtime loss to Toronto sent the Buffalo Sabres to their fourth straight loss. Jack Eichel scored twice and Sam Reinhart netted another, but the blue and gold could not come away with the win, as Auston Matthews beat Linus Ullmark in overtime for his second goal of the night and the game winner for Toronto.

Let's go inside the locker room and see what Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Linus Ullmark and Phil Housley had to say following the 4-3 loss:

Jack Eichel:

On the loss: "We just played two of the top five teams in the NHL on a back to back and we traveled.  I thought we played a great game tonight.  They get an extra point tonight which is frustrating, but give us credit because anybody that has done it knows a back to back is never easy.  Nevermind going from Nashville to home playing (Toronto) They're sitting here waiting for us, and it's not easy.  I thought we brought a lot of compete and effort, but they get the extra point."

Sam Reinhart:

On taking the positives: "We're not sitting here thinking it's fine if we don't win because it's a back to back, but everyone goes through it.  Sounds like (Toronto) has one pretty bad as well later in the year so.  We showed up to play, but it's disappointing right now."

Linus Ullmark:

On Matthews Overtime Goal: "Matthews just came in and ripped a hard one top shelf, bar down.  Kudos to him ."

On the arena atmosphere: "It felt like back home (Sweden), when you play those derbys against the local teams.  It's always great playing these games, because it gives an extra spice to it"

Phil Housley:

On how the defense played when Casey Nelson went out with an injury: "I think the guys did a really good job making good decisions and got their minutes in the right spot.  I give credit to the five guys that were playing because they had to face stiff competition.  Our young guys continue to grow and develop so it was great to see them respond like that."

On Sabres' play during in the last three games: "We haven't played our best in those games except for tonight.  We have been playing tough teams like Tampa and Nashville and when your losing to one goal games and staying resilient and focusing on the task at hand and that's the next game.  We did a terrific job tonight against another top five team in this league and they are to be reckoned with, but I just give our guys credit against a rested team to be able to come out here and put their best foot forward it was a tremendous effort on their part."
