November 25, 2017

The Montreal Canadiens capitalized on the power play midway through the first period to take a 1-0 lead over the Sabres. Check back throughout the game for updates.

Montreal capitalized on the game's first penalty of the night to gain the lead over the Sabres. Jeff Petry was credited with the goal after his point shot went off the stick of Rasmus Ristolainen. Jason Pominville was in the penalty box after being called for a hooking minor. Petry's goal was assisted by Jonathan Drouin and Alex Galchenyuk to make it 1-0 Habs. It took the home team just fourteen seconds into the man advantage to score the lone goal of the opening period.

Tomas Plekanec took the first penalty for Montreal soon after their goal, but Buffalo could not take advantage. The veteran forward was called for delay of game after shooting the puck over the glass in the defensive zone. The blue and gold failed to record a shot on goal during the two-minute power play. Robin Lehner stopped 13 of the 14 Canadiens' shots on goal, while Carey Price made all 10 saves in the opening twenty minutes.

Seth Griffith took a hooking minor nearly halfway through the second period, but Buffalo was able to kill the penalty. Lehner had to make several saves, including one on Max Pacioretty in tight, to keep the deficit at 1-0.
