Gamenight: Sabres lead Detroit 1-0 after a period

The Sabres took advantage of the game's first penalty, helping the team enjoy a 1-0 lead over Detroit. The Red Wings were penalized for too many men on the ice, and the blue and gold scored on the ensuing man advantage. Jeff Skinner scored his 18th goal of the year with a rebound chance. Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolianen were credited with the assists on the goal.

Buffalo recorded 17 shots on goal in the first period, with Jimmy Howard making 16 saves. Linus Ullmark got the start for the blue and gold, making 13 saves in the opening stanza as well. 

Jake McCabe was called for the lone Buffalo penalty in the first period. The rear guard sat for two minutes for slashing. The Red Wings failed to score on their power play chance.
