Gamenight: Kane scores, 1-0 Sabres in second period

November 7, 2017

The Sabres return home after a split on their two-game road trip, welcoming the Washington Capitals to KeyBank Center. The two teams are scoreless in the first period, check back throughout the game for updates.

First Period

17:20 - The Sabres have come out full tilt tonight after Saturday's frustrating loss in Dallas. They have six shots on goal already, and have only given up one on the other end to Washington. However, we know it doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot if it does not result in a goal. But, if they can wear down Philipp Gurbauer, it will be successful.

13:15 - Buffalo fails to score with Alex Ovechkin in the penalty box for tripping. I would have liked to see Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart more aggressive on the top power play unit. Reinhart was at the side of the net with the puck but tried to force a pass through traffic, instead of getting it on net. Take the shot there and go crashing to the crease for the rebound.

8:55 - Jordan Nolan gets called for holding, and now the blue and gold will be a man down for the next two minutes. Buffalo has been very quick tonight with good passing and has held the possession for the majority of the period. We'll see if this hampers their offensive attack at all.

5:16 - Eichel had a golden opportunity just off of the penalty kill and nearly scores. He lost the handle of the puck, but looked to shoot first with Nolan on the opposite side of the 2-on-1. Shots are 12-4 Buffalo, and they have dominated the period.

2:05 - Not sure what has happened to the Sabres, but all of a sudden they have the yips in their own zone and it has nearly cost them. Victor Antipin played the puck back into his own zone across the crease and Robin Lehner had to deflect it off of his stick casually to the other corner. Not good.

Second Period

18:45 - Buffalo had just over a minute of carry over power play time thanks to the Brooks Orpik minor late in the first, but without a shot on goal the team did not score.

17;05 - SABRES GOAL. Jack Eichel looked like a man possessed off of a face-off draw, and it results in the game's first goal. He loses the draw but steals the puck away below the goal line and feeds Evander Kane, who left no doubt. A nice feed to the front of the net gives Buffalo the lead. 1-0 BUF.
