Gamenight: 4-1 Bruins in the second period

October 21, 2017

David Pastrnak's fifth goal of the season gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead late in the first period. The score came after ex-Sabre Tim Schaller was able to coral the puck down along the goal line and take the initial shot. Pastrnak slid the puck between the post and Robin Lehner to give the home team the lead. Schaller and Charlie McAvoy assisted on the game's first goal.

Brad Marchand was able to capitalize just seconds into their first power play of the night to make it 2-0 B's with under five minutes to go in the opening period. The goal was unassisted with Buffalo initially winning the face-off, but the puck went off of Marco Scandella and right to the Boston forward who did not miss the opportunity. Just moments later Evander Kane was called for slashing to put Buffalo down a skater for the second time in the game. However, the team killed off the minor penalty.

Boston outchanced the Sabres, and outshot Buffalo 13-6 in the first period. The Sabres did not have a power play chance in the opening frame, while going 1 for 2 on the penalty kill.

It took Marchand just one shift into the second period to score his second goal of the night and increase the Boston lead to 3-0. The goal came just thirty-seven seconds into the middle frame as the forward unleashed a shot that made it through traffic in the offensive zone. Lehner did not see the shot that went past him and into the goal.

Jason Pominville scored his fifth goal of the season nearly halfway through the game to cut into the Sabres' deficit, 3-1. Ryan O'Reilly was able to steal the puck away from Schaller in the offensive zone and Pominville was able to wire a wrist shot into the net and beat Anton Khudobin for the goal. O'Reilly was given the lone assist on the goal.
