Gameday: Dallas leads Buffalo 2-0 after one

January 20, 2018

The Sabres have a rare home game in the month of January, hosting the Dallas Stars. The two teams are scoreless in the opening period, check back throughout the game for updates.

First Period

16:05 - It has been all Stars so far in this game. Dallas has pinned the blue and gold in their own zone for much of the first four minutes, opening up a 4-0 shot advantage. Robin Lehner has been busy in his crease, not only keeping the puck out but also dealing with Dallas players buzzing around the blue paint.

14:57 - STARS GOAL. Another fire drill in the Buffalo zone, but this time it results in the game's first goal. Robin Lehner was caught out of position and sliding in his crease while the team defense around him allows Remi Elie to get to the front of the net and knock home a bouncing puck. Bad start for Buffalo. 1-0 DAL.

10:21 - Dallas is playing with a real purpose, playing like a team locked into a playoff fight. They have ten shots on goal already, compared to Buffalo's one. For a team that has played a game out of their bye week, the Sabres really are showing little sign of life in this game early.

7:41 - This period could go from bad to worse for Buffalo as Benoit Pouliot sits for the next two minutes for slashing.

5:51 - STARS GOAL. Buffalo did a good job of keeping Dallas out of harm's way on the power play, but another rebound chance goes the visitor's way and it results in the second goal of the game. Mattias Janmark kept the puck low and it appeared to hit off of Jake McCabe's skate and was directed into the net. 2-0 DAL.
