Former Sabres assistant coach Red Berenson is going into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame

(WGR 550) - Former Sabres assistant coach Red Berenson has been named to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

After a 16-year playing career in the NHL, Berenson was an assistant coach in St. Louis between 1978-79. In 1979, he took over as head coach of the Blues, going 100-72-3.

In 1982, Berenson came to the Sabres under Scotty Bowman. Berenson left in 1984 to take over his Alma matter, Michigan where he stayed until 2017.

Berenson was 848-429-92 at Michigan and won two NCAA championships.

As a player, Berenson played 987 NHL games with St. Louis, Montreal, Detroit and the Rangers.
