Eichel shows off his skills in Tampa Bay

January 28, 2018

Jack Eichel looked anything but out of place at the NHL All-Star Game. Eichel scored the game winning goal of the Atlantic Division's first game, and added 2 assists. Three points tied Eichel for 4th all-time in Sabre All-Star Game points with Gilbert Perreault and Brian Campbell.

Eichel played almost all of the games next to fellow American and Leafs star Auston Matthews. However, the prettiest play Eichel made was to NHL point leader Nikita Kucherov of the Lightning. Eichel pulled off a behind the back pass to Kucherov on a two on one, that resulted in a goal.

Kucherov scored a hat-trick in front of his home fans in the Atlantic's first game against the Metropolitan. Sabre fans will remember the move Kucherov pulled off on Braden Holtby, faking a shot and letting the puck's momentum slide through the goalie's legs. Kucherov did the same to Robin Lehner in a shootout last season.

In the championship game between the Atlantic and Pacific, Eichel was held pointless. The Pacific Division won 5-2 and was awarded the $1 million prize. Canucks rookie Brock Boeser was named MVP. Boeser is only the 2nd rookie to ever win MVP at the All-Star Game, Mario Lemieux also did it in 1985.
