Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel has changed his jersey number going forward, swapping his old No. 15 in favor of No. 9.

"For a long time, the number nine has always been a part of my identity as both a person and as a player,” Eichel said in a team press release. “The opportunity opened up to switch and I felt it was the right time to make the change as I begin the next phase of my career as a Sabre.”

In the press release, the team announced that it will offer a discount to fans looking to exchange their No. 15 Eichel jerseys for the new No. 9 Eichel jersey. The Sabres Store will offer a $49 credit toward the purchase of a new adult Eichel jersey, or a $29 credit toward the purchase of a youth jersey starting Monday, July 9.

Eichel wore the No. 9 for his lone season at Boston University, and also at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship as captain of Team USA.
