The Buffalo Bills made several roster moves on Saturday, announcing they have signed cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, defensive tackle Roderick Young, and offensive lineman Demetrius Rhaney. The team also placed cornerback E.J. Gaines (core muscle) and defensive tackle Robert Thomas (knee) on injured reserve, and released offensive lineman Nico Siragusa.

Gaines injured his groin in practice on August 4 at St. John Fisher College. With him now out, there’s a huge opportunity for for several cornerbacks to move up the depth chart and into the top-six group, joining Tre’Davious White, Levi Wallace, Taron Johnson, and Kevin Johnson. Lafayette Pitts, Cam Lewis, Denzel Rice, and Ryan Lewis now all have a better chance to impress the coaching staff.

Munnerlyn is reunited with Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who he played for while McDermott was the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.

Originally a seventh round pick of the Panthers in 2009, Munnerlyn spent five seasons in Carolina before playing for the Minnesota Vikings for two years, then returning to Carolina the last two seasons. He was released by the Panthers back in February. Munnerlyn has 12 career interceptions, returning five of them for touchdowns. The 31-year-old has also been durable, playing 154 of a possible 160 regular season games over his 10-year career.

The #Bills are signing veteran CB Captain Munnerlyn, source says. Former #Panthers corner rejoins Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane in Buffalo as a contributor and mentor for the younger DBs.

Young came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie this offseason, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars out of North Texas University. He was waived-injured in May, then placed on injured reserve, and ultimately reached an injury settlement. He finished his four-year North Texas career with 132 total tackles, including 17.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Rhaney comes to the Bills from the Canadian Football League, where he had been playing center for the Hamilton TigerCats. He does have NFL experience, originally entering the league as a seventh-round pick of the then-St. Louis Rams in 2001 out of Tennessee State. He played 33 games for the Rams over three seasons, starting one. He then spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Redskins, and Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football. He has the ability to play both center and guard, giving the Bills another swing interior lineman.
