10-28 From the Locker Room: Sabres-Sharks

October 28, 2017

A highly contested back and forth affair that saw five lead changes; no one team ever led by more than one goal in the 60 minutes of play. A late Sharks goal by Logan Couture was the ender for Buffalo, however, as San Jose came out on top by the final score of 3-2 in KeyBank Center. Hear what Phil Housley, Ryan O'Reilly, Jason Pominville, and Sam Reinhart had to say from the locker room following the loss on Saturday afternoon.

Phil Housley

On the team's current record in the standings: "It's easy to get negative on our guys because of our record... You look at the effort, you look at the way we played the game tonight and it comes down to a mistake. I have to give our guys a lot of credit because they did everything but win tonight."

Ryan O'Reilly

On the Eichel goal that was disallowed: "I thought that should have counted. That was a weird play. The way Sam (Reinhart) was trying to get out of the way, the puck was in the crease, he tries to get out of the way, he doesn't impact the play, the goalie comes across and the shot goes through him. So, he was there, I thought it should have counted. It's a frustrating bounce."

On his recent performance and scoring more: "I don't think I played very well defensively tonight. I think I gave too much, was kind of up and down all game. It's nice to get on the board, but, still, it's not enough."

Jason Pominville

On the team's struggles to get more wins: "I definitely feel that we're a better team than what our record is showing. But, again, we're not winning those games, so we can't sit here and feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to pull up our sleeves and find a way to win a game like tonight."

On Eichel's goal that was waved off for interference: "It was one I didn't realize until you saw the replay. I think Eichs would have scored anyway, but it might have prevented (the goalie) a little bit to get set on the shot."

Sam Reinhart

On overturned Jack Eichel goal, his goalie interference: "I was first going for the puck, to the puck, obviously trying to tip it five-hole and then try to get my leg out of the way. I thought I did. The rule is there to put into place; if the goalie can recover on the next play, then it should be a goal. In my eyes, in our eyes, he got himself back in and it went through him. It's a little tough to swallow, but our mindset has to focus and switch back."
